Capax means capable in Latin. Your child is capable. Capable of many things! I use tools based in the science of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) to enhance and promote your child's own capabilities and skills.
Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding behaviour and includes a set of principles that focuses on how to promote positive behaviours change.
ABA interventions are applied systematically to help individuals learn new skills that include communication, self-advocacy, self-regulation skills, social skills, or any skill that enhances promotes positive changes in their quality of life.
The effectiveness of the intervention methods are decided based on data collected. Depending on the data, the clinical supervisor with the input from the parent may choose to continue with the intervention or change the intervention to produce positive outcomes for the individual.

Increase the frequency or the reliability of certain behaviours such as communication and independence
Teach your child new skills such as emotion regulation, managing disappointment, cooperation, friendship skills
Maintain behaviours such as listening and responding to certain instructions
Reduce interfering or challenging behaviours

Families reach out for an initial free consultation to determine if CAPAX is a good fit for their child.

Service starts with a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA). This assessment will highlight your child's areas of strengths and needs along with why current challenges are occurring. Once I know why a set of behaviours are occurring, then a tailored intervention plan can be developed.

Weekly or bi-weekly sessions are scheduled that typically occur in the home. The sessions are guided by the intervention plan outlined in the assessment report. Direct teaching, modeling and coaching is provided during these sessions.

Typically, I work with families whose children are age 4-10 years old. They do not have to have any diagnosis to work with me.
Families reach out to me if their child is having trouble with their behaviour, not listening, being withdrawn, or has frequent outbursts.
This varies by each individual child. However, the skill building process can occur quite quickly and families typically start to experience relief of challenging behaviours after the first couple of sessions.
